I've made a half dozen trips in this area over the years, always in July or early August, when the days are longer but thunderstorms often limit hiking hours. I have to say, though, that we take it in smaller bites, usually no more than ten miles a day. Your photos are wonderful, and brought back great memories. Glad you saw the sheep. If you can go back in the summer, Rincon Bonito holds several hundred elk at that time. It's an amazing thing to see.Dave Thompsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4946675798784275561.post-21864589906303064242017-01-19T05:18:44.992-08:002017-01-19T05:18:44.992-08:00With summer upon us the camping supplies come out!...With summer upon us the camping supplies come out! While you are recuperating, you might want to check out the writings of Elliot S. Barker, particularly "Beatty's Cabin" and "Western Life and Adventures in the Great Southwest." Both deal extensively with the Pecos Wilderness and the Sangre de Cristo mountains immediately south of the Colorado border.
